At Close to Home Childcare Center and Preschool, we understand what developing minds need to be sucsessful when they start school. The first five years of a child’s live are the most transformative. Just know we are not a typical daycare. Whether your looking for childcare for an infant, toddler, preschool or after school care, we’ve designed our programs so your child can excel at each stage through our state of the art curriculum!

    Infant Program

    Age 6 Weeks – 18 Months

    We offer a safe, nurturing, creative environment to help infants’ minds and bodies grow.

    Our teachers sing, read, and talk to your child to help stimulate their rapid cognitive and social development.

    Infant Goals
    • Follows moving object with eyes

    • Moved first by rocking, twisting, pivoting

    • Next crawls, scoots, and/or walks

    • Holds and bangs objects as pincher (thumb and forefinger) grasp develops

    • Learns to transfer things from one hand to another

    • Develop small and large motor skills by learning to control body muscles and learning to pick up things and hold them

    • Actively use hands to explore the environment

    • Imitate the sounds of others

    • Realize that objects not seen still exist

    • Recognize familiar objects and people

    • Explore environment in presence of caregiver

    • Copy simple motions, like clapping

    • Eat with fingers

    • Begins to hold bottle and can later grasp a cup

    • Holds arms out to be held

    • Learns to sit up, reach for things, pull up

    Infant Sample Schedule

    Infants will follow their normal schedule as much as possible while at the center.

    An Infant Feeding Schedule is to be completed by the parent prior to enrollment, which states the child’s normal eating habits. Please be sure to update this as needed.

    Diapering will be completed every 2 hours or as needed throughout the day.

    Though a schedule is followed, infants are catered to on a “demand” schedule and will be fed, diapered, rocked and allowed to sleep as needed throughout the day.

    Toddler Program

    Age 18 months – 2.5 years

    A fun and educational environment which provides classroom level interaction while still maintaining individual nurturing.

    Additionally, for the older toddlers (2.5 – 3 years of age) we have a foundational curriculum that focuses on potty training in our Wee School Program.

    • Strengthen small muscle skills (cutting, tearing, drawing, lacing)

    • Begins to count, put things in order (sequence) and match objects

    • Can speak in simple phrases

    • Begin learning to respect the rights of others and share

    • Begin to be toilet-trained

    • Can dress self with help

    • Can help put things away

    • Rides tricycles

    • Runs to kick a stationary ball

    • Begins to show left/right handedness

    • Holds a writing tool with a fist or finger grasp

    • Draws with variety of tools (crayons, pens, pencils)

    • Identifies some shapes such as circle, square, and triangle

    • Shows interest in numbers and recites some number words

    • Knows a few color words

    Age 3 – 4 years

    Our preschoolers strengthen their cognitive skills (i.e. following rules) and social skills (i.e. learning how to share).

    We introduce concepts relating to language, math, science, and social skills while providing plenty of individual attention to support your child’s unique needs.

    • Recognize some numbers (1-10)

    • Correctly count four to ten objects

    • Recognize and name basic colors

    • Identify and draw a square, circle, and triangle

    • Match or groups objects according to size, shape, and color

    • Describe how objects are the same or different

    • Follow one and two-step oral directions

    • Recognizing rhyming words

    • Recognize some common words in print

    • Recognize some many uppercase and lowercase letters

    • Recognize some letter sounds

    • Attempt to write own name and recognize own name in print

    • Arrange objects in size order (big to small, or small to big)

    After School Program

    Kindergarten Students – 12 years old

    Close to home provides an After School Program for children up to 12 years old. Our focus is to help with homework and provide activities that are fun & engaging so your child will make new friends and learn new concepts.

    In our program kids get a chance to work together in a fun way with peers to make lasting memories. We make sure we have free time incorporated (so kids can be kids) and find their passions and interests. Laughter is important, so we create action-packed activities that foster these opportunities. As kids try new activities, they also gain confidence and their desire to learn grows even deeper.
